1955 Jaguar XK 140 Roadster
In 1954 Jaguar introduced the XK140 as a replacement for the highly
successful Jaguar XK120 that had first appeared in 1948. The XK Series
was conceived by William Lyons as a sleek automobile that sat atop a
short wheelbase in two-seat roadster configuration powered by a twin-cam
engine. The XK120, named because of its 120 mph top speed, was powered
by an engine that produced 160 horsepower. The 'X' represented the 'experimental'
engine type while the letter 'K' was the sequence. The XK140 received a
larger 190 horsepower engine, rack-and-pinion steering, and more
interior space. Interior space was gained by the repositioning of the
engine and firewall, thus keeping the dimensions of the chassis
identical to the XK120. Minor improvements were done to the aesthetics
of the vehicle. A Special Equipment package was available that included
Dayton wire wheels and a 210 horsepower engine, the result of C-Type
heads and dual exhaust. The XK legacy continued with outright victories
at LeMans in 1953, 1955, 1956 and 1957. This 24 hour grueling marathon
is a true test of speed and endurance. The XK-Series proved to be the
best. |

1962 Jaguar XKE
The Jaguar E type, also known as the XK-E, brought style and performance
together to create a mass-produced supercar. The road-going sports car
was conceived in 1956 as a replacement for the D-type. In March of 1961
the E-Type was officially introduced to the world at the Geneva,
Switzerland Motor show. It's design was created by an aerodynamic
engineer named Malcolm Sayer. The front engine, rear-wheel drive vehicle
featured a moncoque body and a tubular front chassis. The six-cylinder
double-cam engine had three SU carburetors and produced 265 horsepower.
The suspension was independent with disc brakes on all four wheels. It
brought together the best or aerodynamics, coupled with the latest
technology and propelled by a potent engine. The vehicle was not only
fast, it offered excellent performance and handling. Some of the most
common complaints it received were the cabin being too cramped and it
suffered from poor ventilation. |

1965 Shelby Cobra CSX 4000
Today's version of the legendary Shelby Cobra is the CSX4000 Series
427S/C Cobra from Shelby American. And for all practical purposes, it's
everything their original 1965 model was, and more. From the world's
first computer designed chassis and four wheel coil-over independent
suspension to the heart stopping power of the big block Ford V8
breathing through those vicious looking side pipes - these Cobras are
100 percent Shelby. Some minor improvements to the car itself include a
stronger steel frame and better alloys used in the components, plus
better cooling designed to make these cars safer and more drivable
without losing any of their original character.
